“Just finished Bom Bom. What an amazing book. I loved it so much. Tusi Tala. In Samoan it means Story Teller. I saw everything and loved the way you finished the book by summing up the world we all live in.”

“As someone who did a very similar overland road trip in the late 1970s this book will bring back memories for those who did the so called Hippie Trail or a real page turner for those who were too young or didn’t do it. What sets Mark apart from others during this time period is leaving Australia on a steamer going east and eventually ending up in London to buy a van. The book is illustrated with great original drawings that will remind one of the great American cartoonist R. Crumb. This period of travel is one with no mobile phones, cannabis being illegal, getting mail from poste restate, or American Express, and using the black market for like buying cloves in Sri Lanka and selling in India. Mark first use of an airplane in his travels was from India into Kathmandu on a DC3 in mid 70s. Many have done similar travels but very few people have written books. This one is highly entertaining, and is well written. Mark gets off the beaten path many times in Asia like northern Pakistan and his adventures in Japan are unusual to say the least. Have fun with this book.”

— Kurt Gibbs, California

“Great memories, journalised and narrated into a wonderful wild story. Written how it happened, taking me totally into your journey with Pedro. I could feel the heat, hear the sounds, taste the food and smell the hashish by the end of the book! Glad you made it back to tell the story.”

— Mo Regan, Nambucca Heads.

"It was the post Vietnam war era, the world’s youth had a unstoppable thirst for a new way of life, a search for spiritual achievement, it was the peace and love movement. Thousands of Australian and Europeans hit the road toward the subcontinent opening their inner self, with the help of marijuana and LSD. Mark started his trip by boat from Sydney to London then he didn’t hit the road he bashed it! If you want to bring back the memories, or discover this inconceivable way of life by today standard, you couldn’t make it up!”

Franco, Homebush

"Loved Bom Bom. Would love to hear it on a podcast. It sounds so well spoken aloud. You captured those times beautifully. So many memories. Your treatise had me so happy and at times sad. It was a great romp back then. The Golden years lived. How lucky were we! I have to go back and do a little meditation on some of what you wrote, loved it”.

— Rod, Wonthaggi

“Just finished Bom Bom. Very interesting and enlightening. Well done on such an accomplishment writing a book of your very interesting, surprising and incredible travels in the 70s. I hope lots of people read it. I look forward to your next book.”

— Robyn, Manly

“How travel has changed! You couldn’t get away with this type of adventure these days. A very easy enjoyable read.”

— Linde, Frenchs Forest

"When I saw the book title and the synopsis, the first thing that came to my mind was Paulo Coelho's Hippie. While reading, I also felt parallels between the two books, as both stories took place in the 1960s and 70s and followed the common hippie trail. But I can say that I prefer Bom Bom over Hippie. Hippie was slow, sometimes boring, but Bom Bom is the exact opposite, fast-paced and fun.

I loved the writing style of Mark, it's modest and enjoyable. A wonderful read and I truly enjoyed reading it".

"OMG! Read this book in two days. If you are after some fun, fruity and hairy reminiscences from what was the right of passage for many young Aussies (and others) - the overland hippie trail - this is it! Compellingly written and remembered this story has a serious side - the undercurrent of hope and acceptance that was the soul of the writer but also the voice of a generation. A truly uplifting salve for today’s times. 5 stars”
